Cosmetic brand Shu Uemura to close U.S. retail operations

San Francisco's Shu Uemura lash bar will soon bat its last.

L'Oreal announced that it will close all U.S. retail operations of cosmetic brand Shu Uemura, known for popularizing fake eyelashes and designing an iconic eyelash curler.

One of the brand's three U.S. boutiques is at 1971 Fillmore St., on the corner of Pine Street in Pacific Heights. Other boutiques are in Costa Mesa, CA and Boston. L'Oreal said about 26 employees will be affected by the closures, which will be complete in the next few months.

Shu Uemura is carried by about 100 retailers across the country, including Saks, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.

The brand will continue online sales in the U.S., and will continue retail operations in 18 other countries.
