Health care bill set for House vote Sunday

The U.S. House of Representatives will vote Sunday on the controversial health reform package passed by the Senate on Christmas Eve.

The Senate plan does not include a government-run public option to operate alongside private insurers, and it would restrict foreign drug imports. The U.S. pharmaceutical industry opposes such imports.

The massive bill would open up health insurance coverage for those with pre-existing conditions, allow uninsured young adults to stay on their parents’ plan and offer more funding for state Medicaid programs payday loans.

Two Arizona Democratic congressional members — Ed Pastor of Phoenix and Harry Mitchell of Tempe — said they plan on voting for the plan. Arizona’s Republican congressional delegation oppose the bill.
