Jury sides with Mattel in copyright case
July 22nd, 2008
A lawyer for Mattel Inc. says a jury has ruled that a designer conceived a competitor’s Bratz doll characters while working for Mattel.
John Quinn, an attorney for Mattel (MAT, Fortune 500), says the jury reached its verdicts in the copyright infringement lawsuit Thursday in U.S. District Court in Riverside, Calif.
Mattel, the maker of Barbie, filed the lawsuit against MGA Entertainment Inc., which began marketing the line of sassy urban dolls in 2001 fast cash.
Mattel has claimed it owned the rights to the popular Bratz line because its creator, Carter Bryant, came up with the concept while working for Mattel.
