Machinists at GKN Aerospace in St. Louis reject offer
The Machinists union at GKN Aerospace in St. Louis rejected the company’s latest contract offer on Sunday.
Members of District 837 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers also authorized a strike.
Gordon King, the IAM’s president and directing business rep for District 837, said the union and company differ over pension, health insurance and workweek issues.
"They gave us their final offer, and it didn’t meet our members’ expectations," he said.
King said the union is waiting to hear from the company to see if it is willing to go back to the bargaining table. The union would decide whether to send a seven-day letter of intent before its members would strike.
GKN Aerospace, a unit of British manufacturer GKN PLC, is a major supplier for Boeing Co payday loans online. It employs 1,400 people, including about 900 union Machinists, at its Hazelwood composites and metallics manufacturing facility.
